Layer Collection Serialization
For: MapXtreme for .Net
By: Pitney Bowes Software
This demo shows an alternate method for saving the state of a maps layer collection. Instead of saving everything it allows you to save only the parts you need.
This sample app shows how you can customize how the application state is saved and restored. When you are saving and restoring state, you want to do it as efficiently as possible. For example, if your application gives the ability for users to toggle the visibility of layers, then you must save and restore that information. If your application does not allow the user to alter the visibility of layers, then there shouldn't be a need for you to save and restore information regarding the layer visibility, since the user cannot change the visibility. If you save and restore the entire Layers collection, it's very easy from a programming perspective, but behind the scenes, more work is being done to save and restore values that didn't change. The heart of this application lies within the LayersDeserializer class. You can choose which type of serialization you wish to use.
